Wu Daguan
Strategic Study of CAE 2000, Volume 2, Issue 1, Pages 77-80
A brief description of the initiative history of gas turbine aeroengine which quite few people knowthe 1940's USA, the former Soviet Union and old China all bought the license of Nene gas turbine aeroengineThe fact has proved that attaching importance to the fundamental pre-research on aeroengine is one ofthe key points in aeroengine development. Therefore measures on how to attach importance to the pre-research to ensure aeroengine industrial prosperity

Strategic Study of CAE 2001, Volume 3, Issue 1, Pages 31-35
The significance of the theory of modem management and decision making to the research and development of aero-engines in China is discussed. Then by reviewing some successful and unsuccessful examples in and out of China of decision making in research and development of new aero-engines, experiences and lessons in decision making and management are analysed and summarized. It is further stated that several relationships should correctly be handled in connection with the practice in China in the process of research and development of Chinese aeroengines. For the better and faster development of Chinese aero-engines, to practise decision making in a scientific and democratic way will be the first important measure to be taken. At last suggestions for scientific decision making in research and development of Chinese new aeroengines are presented.

Strategic Study of CAE 2007, Volume 9, Issue 6, Pages 1-10
Multidisciplinary design optimization (MDO) is regarded as the most hopeful upgrade of current methodology for complex system design. In order to overcome the difficulties in advanced aero-engine design, such as complex coupling relations and serious conflicts between different disciplines, the research, development and application of key technologies of MDO have been carried out in three phases: part design, component design and whole engine preliminary design. And a MDO-based integrative aero-engine design method is presented. Five examples of engineering applications are given to demonstrate that the proposed method can improve aero-engine design ability very much comparing with the traditional method, and is prospective to be applied widely to engineering field.
